17 Day Alaska Summer Road Trip Itinerary

In June of 2023, Teddy and I got married in Alaska and had a two week road trip exploring what we were able to in the state for our honeymoon. Alaska is so large that we barely scratched the surface, but we wanted to share what we did so that as you plan your own trip, you can choose what to include in your own itinerary!

2 Days in Homer, Alaska

After our whirlwind bear viewing and fishing adventure in Soldotna, Teddy and I made the 2 hour drive south to Homer. This was really the last leg of our trip in Alaska so we had booked a lodge that had everything we could have asked for and more including a hot tub, a balcony, and the most beautiful mountain and bay views.

2 Days in Seward, Alaska (+ Itinerary)

We woke up early and checked out and drove an hour to Seward. We booked a boat tour that would take us through Kenai Fjords National Park which began around 10 am. We booked the tour that ended with dinner on Fox Island. The entire tour was about 8.5 hours and I’d definitely do it again if I went back. We got to see so much sea life and a tidewater glacier!

From Anchorage to Denali (+ 4 Day Itinerary)

After 5 days in Palmer and our wedding on a glacier, we set out on our 10 Day Honeymoon Road Trip through Alaska. But, it didn’t start off as we planned. I began to experience symptoms of minor altitude sickness the day after our ceremony, which happened to be the day we began driving north toward Denali. In addition, the allergies I had from Pennsylvania got worse, and now looking back I realize became bronchitis. I felt like crap, but we were determined to make the best of our time in the Last Frontier. We stocked up on medicine and fluids for me, and began our drive north from Palmer to Denali.

Planning our Alaska Destination Wedding

When most people thing of destination weddings, they think of a beach somewhere. For us, we wanted somewhere with mountains.

The states we leaned most toward were Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. We’ve never been to Colorado together before but the Maroon Bells for a wedding looked beautiful. We briefly considered Glacier National Park and the Tetons, but decided we’d rather go somewhere we hadn’t been and that would be the experience of a lifetime.
