Explore Florida: Eagle Lake Park in Pinellas County

Eagle Lake Park in Pinellas County, FL was originally owned by the Taylor family and was used for cattle crazing and citrus groves. Now, 163 acre park is home to wetland boardwalks, a recreation trail, a dog park, two lakes, picnic areas and playgrounds.

My friend who lives in the area mentioned this park to me. Surprisingly, I hadn’t yet visited it even though it is less than a 20 minute drive from my house. If you’re looking for a place to just go for a short walk or run, this is a great spot. Bring your pup(s) and stop by the dog park or bring a picnic and hang out in one of the pavillions.

My favorite thing to do at the park is go for a walk or a run. I’ve been training for my half marathon in September and like to get to new areas for my runs. It creates a new experience each time I run and I don’t get bored like I do on a treadmill. You can check out a map of the park here. I tend to change my route each time I go, but for the most part I do 1-2 laps around one lake and then cross over to the other and do a few more laps depending on how long my schedule run is. I did a 4 mile run here the other day and the route I took (the long way around the lakes and on the scenic path) was exactly 4 miles for two laps around the entire place.
